Telegramme to His Most Rev. Demetrios Archbishop of America New York

1/4/2005

To
His Most Rev.
Demetrios
Archbishop of America
New York

As soon as I was informed of the departure of the ever-memorable Chief Hierarch Iakovos I prayed for the repose of his blessed soul among the saints. The departed was a great child of the Church and of the Country. He honoured the Church and the nation; he was distinguished for his struggles in favour of the rights of the nation, acting as the wise shepherd of the extended flock of our fellow-Greeks there, and he was established as the dynamic and undoubted leader of millions of Greek Christians. His memory will remain eternal and History will write down his multifarious contribution in golden letters. Wishing to attend the funeral service I shall be leaving Athens these days. An announcement of my arrival details is due soon.
